IXOYE for us who stumble in the light

God has created you for a Purpose

"..so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty,
but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it".
Isaiah 55:11

What is the meaning of life?

It's the big question that has haunted mankind through all generations and it's the question that undoubtedly brings us - sometimes in desperation - to God.

Of all the faiths, Christianity at least perports to offer an answer; life is to serve God's purpose.

From the beginning; "God saw that it was good" (Genesis 1:4), to the end "Behold, I am
coming soon! My reward is with me
". (Revelation 22:12),
God has set out His purpose;
to love us.

And our purpose? To love Him back

Jesus was asked repeatedly during His ministry; "my Lord, what should I do?".
His response was; "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment". (Matthew 22:37-38).

To get some ideas on how to love your God have a look at the The Narrow Road page on this site but I guess that for now you will be wondering about your career, your relationships, your health, your finances and your unfulfilled passions and desires. What has God got to say about those?

Let us go back to the beginning, before things went wrong with our relationship with God, back to the Garden of Eden.

Work - The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. (Genesis 2:15) God gives us work, it's important to Him, it has a purpose and it should be rewarding.

Relationships - The Lord God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him." (Genesis 2:18) God created us to be in relationship with others and for those relationships to do us good.

Health - "You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die." (Genesis 2:16a-17) God created us to live for ever and not to suffer or die.

Finance - And the LORD God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground—trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food. (Genesis 2:9) God provides for us.

Passions / Desires - When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was... desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. (Genesis 3:6) God created the desires in our hearts but we are responsible for controlling them.

So, in summary, God created us for a purpose; to be in a loving relationship, with Him and with others, to work for pleasure and in order to maintain his provision for us, and to experience desires and learn how to tame them for good things.
