What is it?
Obedience comes from complying with God commands. Romans
2:13
Why should we?
God's commands exist for our good. Psalm
19:7
God wants to see that we love him. Romans
13:10
How?
It is actually impossible to live without breaking God's commands, (sinning).
God knows that which is why he has always provided his people with a
way of gaining forgiveness.
Before Jesus we would have been required to comply with elaborate rituals
ending in the sacrificial slaughter of animals. Jesus however provided
a once and for all sacrifice when he gave up his own life.
He also ended all ritualistic requirements by replacing law with the
freedom to chose whether or not we want to stop sinning.
It sounds a bit too good to be true but what God has done through His
Son Jesus Christ is to write His law on our hearts. In other words,
our heart tells us when we have done wrong, (if you accept Jesus Christ
as your saviour), and we then have the opportunity to simply ask God
to forgive us, because of Jesus' sacrifice.
Part of the deal is that we must truly acknowledge our failing and have
a genuine desire to turn away from continuing to act in that way. Jesus
sent us the Holy Spirit to help us, (because it is still very hard).
The Holy Spirit gives us encouragement and the strength to change who
we are, over time.
When?
God is holy and demands perfection. You may not have read the bible
but you have no excuses for not recognising sin if you have accepted
Jesus as your saviour, because in doing so, the Holy Spirit will convict
you, (make it plain). Therefore as you experience the conviction from
the Holy Spirit, so you must seek forgiveness.
Where?
In every part of our lives
Who?
To God, His word, His Son and The Holy Spirit
